The football season continues all over the world and as usual, a slew of Nigerian players was in action for their respective club sides outside the country.
We take a look at how they performed over the weekend.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was in action for Arsenal in their 1-0 away loss at bitter rivals Tottenham. Iwobi came on as a substitute in his 17th league appearance for Arsenal this season.
Wilfred Ndidi was on for Leicester City as they fell 5-1 away at Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Ndidi’s compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho came on in the 62nd minute in the game against his former club.
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina played all 90 minutes as Hull City beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the Championship.
The game was Aina’s 28th league appearance for Hull City this season.
Nigerian forward Sone Aluko was on for 90 minutes in Reading’s 2-1 loss away to Middlesbrough on Saturday.
On Monday, Victor Moses played all 90 minutes and scored as Chelsea returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win over West Brom.
Moses netted Chelsea’s second goal of the game.
Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was on for 90 minutes in Mainz’s 4-2 away loss at Hoffenheim. Balogun was shown the yellow card in the 87th minute of the game.
His compatriot Anthony Ujah was an unused substitute for Mainz.
Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi who is on loan at Mouscron from Liverpool netted a brace but it wasn’t enough as they fell 4-3 away to Standard Liege in the Belgian Jupiler on Sunday.
Super Eagles defender Uche Agbo was an unused substitute for Standard Liege.
Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong was on for 90 minutes in Bursaspor’s 1-0 loss away at Akhisar Belediye on Sunday.
Troost-Ekong’s compatriot Shehu Abdullahi was also in action for Bursaspor. Abdullahi played 60 minutes before he was substituted.
Another Nigerian player Mikel Agu was on the bench for Bursaspor.
Nigerian forward Aminu Umar played all 90 minutes as Osmanlispor played out a 3-3 draw away to Goztepe. Umar made one assist in the game
His compatriot, Raheem Lawal came on at the start of the second half for Osmanlispor.
Nigeria striker Junior Ajayi netted two goals as Al Ahly beat Al Mokawloon Al Arab 5-2 in the Egyptian Premier League on Monday.
Ajayi scored Al Ahly second goal of the game in the 16th minute before he added his second to make it 3-2 after Al Mokawloon had fought back to 2-2.
Ajayi has now scored seven goals in 19 league appearances for Ahly so far this season.
Nigerian youngster Chidiebere Nwakali who is on loan from Manchester City was an unused substitute as Aberdeen beat Dundee United 4-2 in the round of 16 of the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
Former MFM FC goal king Stephen Odey was on the bench the whole 90 minutes as FC Zurich who pipped St. Gallen 2-1.
In the Netherlands
Super Eagles defender, Tyrone Ebuehi played all 90 minutes as ADO Den Haag managed a goalless draw away at Groningen.
In Denmark, Nigerian duo, Paul Onuachu and Frank Onyeka both scored as Midtjylland recorded a 2-0 win over AC Horsens on Friday.
That was Onuachu’s ninth goal in 17 league appearances this season, while Onyeka, 20 just netted his first for Midtjylland.
